Mostly flat, with steep hill at 2.5-mile mark; gradual
downhill through Golden Gate Park.

Race Course Directions  
• Start at Howard & Spear Sts.
• Proceed down Howard St. 10 blocks to Ninth St.
• Take a right on Ninth St.
• Continue 2 blocks to Market St.
• Cross Market St., veer left onto Hayes St.
• Continue on Hayes St. until Divisadero St.
• Take a left onto Divisadero St.
• Take a right onto Fell St.
• Continue on Fell St. to the park
• Take JFK Dr. into the park
• Follow JFK Dr. through the park until the Great Highway
• Turn left on Great Highway into the Finish Line

Start Line Instructions  
Sunday, May 18, 2003 at 8:00 am, Howard and Spear
Streets in San Francisco's Financial District.
 
Enter from Market Street and Mission Street— runners to
Spear Street; walkers, striders, families and centipedes to
Steuart Street.
 
There will be no check-in table or late registration on race day.

1. 2-mile mark at Polk and Hayes Streets  
2. 4-mile mark at McLaren Lodge in Golden Gate Park  
3. Finish line at the Great Highway  
Smile!  
Sport Photo photographers will be in two locations:  
1. Race photos at the 6-mile mark in Golden Gate Park  
2. Race photos at the finish line at the Great Highway  
3. Just beyond the finish line for posed finishing photos  
Safety and Race Courtesy  
• Do not run in from the sides. It endangers you and other runners!  
• No roller blades, skateboards or bicycles.  
• Use caution with strollers and assisted wheelchairs.  
• No public consumption of alchohol (including kegs, bottles and cans) is allowed.  
• No animals.  
• Walkers and slower traffic, stay to the right and line up at the back of the pack.  
• No plastic bags for warm-ups.  
• Naked running is not permitted. The police department may arrest or cite violators of Park codes and City ordinances.  
First Aid  
• First aid stations on the course are located within each mile mark and at Footstock.  
• An emergency medical information form with a map showing the locations of the 14 emergency medical stations is on the back of your runner number bib. Please wear your own runner number and fill in the information requested on the back.  
You Made It!  
Finish Line Instructions:  
• Finish line officials will direct you to open chutes to record your official time. DO NOT SLOW DOWN OR CHANGE CHUTES WHILE IN THE FINISH CHUTES.  
Post-race Results:  
Time results will be available through our website after the race. Names of the first 10,000 timed finishers will be published on Monday May 19 in a special souvenir edition of the San Francisco Examiner.
