Focus-N-Fly & SMI are offering group training to make your Bay to Breakers race an experience to remember!

If you are looking for a personalized program, frequent interactions with coaching staff and great team support—we have it.

No Running Background? No Problem! Aspiring and accomplished athletes alike benefit from our personalized approach to training. This program will give you an opportunity to work on an individual basis with the coaching staff to help you reach your goals. All workouts will be held in a fun, organized manner and geared towards your racing ambitions.

Never Been Able to Run Through the Crowds Before? We’ll Put You Front and Center on the Starting Line. This year you can forget about weaving your way through several thousand walkers, runners and “other participants”. As part of our Training Group, participants will have access to preferred placement just behind the elite and seeded runners, and well ahead of the masses. Now you can concentrate on your run and the festivities along the way minus the crowds.

The 10-week program starting Sunday, March 9, 2003 includes:

Two group workouts per week—peninsula and north bay locations are available
A training calendar with daily workout, recovery and cross-training prescriptions
A personalized pace chart to individualize your training intensities
A $50 voucher for the SMI Human Performance Lab services – these include nutritional analysis, personalized training and heart rate zones, VO2 and lactate testing
An official racing singlet and discounts to all Focus-N-Fly sponsors
Monthly clinics on nutrition, training, racing and injury prevention
Cost: $150.00 (does not include race entry)

The Focus-N-Fly/SMI Training Group will be staffed by coaches Tom McGlynn, Colleen Julian and Peter Julian.
Tom, a 2000 Marathon Olympic Trials qualifier, is the founder of the premier Bay Area Running Group, Focus-N-Fly, which has enabled a variety of runners to surpass their goals. Colleen, a Division I All-American runner, is currently the Human Performance Lab Coordinator at SMI. Peter is the Assistant Coach for cross-country at Santa Clara University. Peter has represented the United States at the Pan-American Games, World Track and Field Championships and the World Cross Country Championships.

Sports Medicine Institute International (SMI) was established in 1996 as a public benefit, nonprofit corporation in a cooperative effort by athletes, coaches, physicians, researchers and therapists. Or mission is to provide a charitable clinic to aid in the advancement of national and international athletic performance under the guidance of a board of highly qualified directors, experienced physiologists and soft tissue therapists. The clinic is available not only to elite competing athletes but also to recreational athletes and patients.

Training locations include San Francisco, Burlingame and Palo Alto and team members range from the sub-elite to the beginner. Come join a group of like-minded runners to focus and fly!
